The Book

The Engine 2 Diet is a revolutionary new diet created by Rip Esselstyn. He wrote a book that was recently released (refered to side bar for information on obtaining the book). The main focus of this diet is to cut out food intake that negatively affects your body. The book says to eat only plants and vegatables for 28 days. They guarentee you will loose weight and feel better. Simply doing this for 28 days will change how you think about eating for the rest of your life. You wont just forget about what you learned, and how it affected you, after 28 days are up. Below is some more information about the diet.

The Engine 2 Diet lowers consumption of bad carbohydrates and animal proteins.

There are two types of carbohydrates: complex and simple. Both of these are sugars that are digested into glucose, which is used by the body for energy. When too many carbohydrates are consumed, they are converted to fats to be stored in the body.

Complex carbohydrates are found in whole-grain products, vegetables, fruits and oats. They are full of fibers, minerals, vitamins and nutrients. Complex carbs are slowly digested and cause a regulated release of glucose.

Simple carbohydrates are found in white breads, pastas and rices, alcoholic beverages, fast foods, candies and animal products. These foods do not contain much fiber, minerals and vitamins and are quickly digested. This causes a sharp spike in the release of glucose. If the body does not require all of this glucose for its energy needs, the excess glucose will be converted to fats.

About 70 percent of our daily calories should come from good carbohydrates, so we need to control our food intake.

With the Engine 2 Diet, you’ll follow a “vegetables and fruits only” diet and should avoid diary products, animal products and oils.
